以太坊基金會宣布 Ropsten 測試網即日開始關閉，自 2022 年 12 月 15 日至 31 日期間，剩餘的驗證者會逐間關閉客戶端，之後所有團隊都不再支援 Ropsten。基金會也宣布下個階段，預定 2023 年中會關停 PoW 測試網 Ropsten，並且鼓勵開發者在這段時間，將 Ropsten 的設施與智能合約，盡早遷移至Goerli 或 Sepolia兩大現在主要 PoS 測試網上。
以太坊基金會今日宣布，Ropsten 測試網將正式棄用，當前驗證者參與的數量正在逐漸下降，剩餘的驗證者將再 2022 年 12 月 15 日至 31 日期間陸續關閉，在這之後，所有的基礎設施團隊以及客戶端、測試都將不再支援Ropsten 測試網。
Ropsten 是在以太坊信標鏈與 PoW 鏈主網合併前第一個進行 The Merge 測試的測試網，在今年6 月 9 日時完成合併，開啟了以太坊歷史性的一刻，而最初許多設施商以及開發人員都在上面部屬合約，已測試應用程式在合併期間以及之後的穩定程度，現在可謂功成身退。
明年中關閉 PoW 鏈 Rinkeby
而以太坊基金會也宣布，下個即將關閉的測試網為 Rinkeby，基金會宣稱該網路將一直運行到 2023 年年中為止，而 Rinkeby 到關閉前都不支援 The Merge，意味著當前 Rinkeby 是以太坊官方最後一條 PoW 鏈。
基金會表示，持續運行到明年年中是為了使開發人員有足夠的時間將其合約以及節點與各種設施遷移到 Goerli 或 Sepolia 測試網，這兩大測試網是當今以太坊官方遷移至 PoS 後主要的測試網，前者在 8 月 11 日完成 The Merge 測試，後者則是在 7 月 7 日完成合併。
簡言之，當前以太坊測試網狀況如下：
- Ropsten：原有舊鏈，6 月初合併進入 PoS，12 月 15 ~ 12 月 31 日間會直接停止
- Rinkeby：原有舊鏈，未合併維持純 PoW，預定明年中關閉
- Goerli：為測試合併開設之新鏈，8 月與信標鏈測試網Prater完成合併，以太坊當前主要測試網之一
- Sepolia：原有舊鏈，7月完成合併，以太坊合併後主要測試網之一
同時以太坊基金會也表明，以太坊網路的提案以及測試網的生命週期都是社群電話會議討論出來的結果，目的是為了以太坊社群能有更廣泛利用測試網路的機會，若有其他疑問，官方建議應在社群中強烈表達意見。
