據《商業內幕》報導，作為 Sam Bankman-Fried（SBF）旗下基金 FTX Future Fund 的法律顧問，William MacAskill 曾在今年 3 月透過簡訊聯絡 Elon Musk，向他說明 SBF 有興趣收購 Twitter，並試圖安排兩人會面，看看這兩位富豪是否有可能一起收購 Twitter。
William MacAskill 於 3 月 29 日在簡訊中寫道，
「不確定這有沒有在你的規劃內，但我的合作者 Sam Bankman-Fried 一直有興趣收購它（Twitter），然後讓世界變得更美好。如果你想和他談談在這個方向上的潛在合作方式…」
Elon Musk 接著便詢問，「SBF 是否擁有巨額資金」，根據彭博億萬富翁指數，SBF 淨資產為 94.4 億美元，但 William MacAskill 當時就回應稱，這位 FTX 共同創辦人暨執行長的身價約為 240 億美元，願意出資 80 億至 150 億美元。
不過，摩根士丹利全球技術投資銀行業務負責人 Michael Grimes 後來就告訴Elon Musk，SBF 只願意出資 50 億美元。Michael Grimes 當時還說，「我相信你會喜歡他的，像你一樣是個超級天才和實業家。」
然而，Elon Musk 似乎對這筆交易不太感興趣，但究竟又是為何呢？Elon Musk 說，他不想和 SBF 進行「一場艱苦的區塊鏈辯論」。
再後來，SBF 的名字和他的公司 FTX 也就沒有出現在投資方名單裡了。
